of Carthaginians. \u00a0Both sides had some skirmishers and a little cavalry on the flanks.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1523\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1523\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/100_1495.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1523\" title=\"100_1495\" src=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/100_1495-300x96.jpg\" alt=\"A view of the Roman center early in the game\" width=\"300\" height=\"96\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/100_1495-300x96.jpg 300w, https:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/100_1495-1024x327.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1523\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A view of the Roman center early in the game<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The game played very well, I thought. \u00a0Because of changes we&#8217;ve made it has a decidedly different feel from the previous three versions of the Look, Sarge rules. \u00a0I am thinking about adding a charge bonus for melee, however. \u00a0We haven&#8217;t done this in other versions of the rules. \u00a0(In the Napoleonic version, charging cavalry gets to roll first against non-charging units that are not in square.) \u00a0As ancients are mostly melee games, with perhaps some thrown spears or pila right before contact, I&#8217;m worried that the game will discourage people from charging at each other and could degenerate into folks staring at each other across the table.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1522\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1522\" style=\"width: 293px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/100_1496.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1522\" title=\"100_1496\" src=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/100_1496-293x300.jpg\" alt=\"The Carthaginian left about midpoint in the game\" width=\"293\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/100_1496-293x300.jpg 293w, https:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/100_1496-1003x1024.jpg 1003w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 293px) 100vw, 293px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1522\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Carthaginian left about midpoint in the game<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Being mostly naked, it was difficult as Carthaginians to defeat the heavily armored Romans unless you could mass several units on one. \u00a0In this picture you can see that I was deployed in two lines. \u00a0My first line was in an odd, &#8220;refuse the flank&#8221;
